Shoot Day 5 - Crashing Cars

Emily and Sam - don't worry, it'll wash off

A nice set of old fashioned lighting techniques being employed today.
It's quite surprising sometimes how young filmmakers are keen to rush
for the green or blue screen when you can achieve everything in
camera.

This involves quite a lot of setting up, getting an actual car into
your studio, the fun an games as the crew tries to manouevre everything -
a few hours spent lighting and rehearsing moving lighting - but then this
is always less time than trying to composite everything later on - and it
makes it better for the actors and avoids the depressing green reflected
light phenomena in your studio.

Once everything is set up, everthing goes very smoothly.  Excellent physical
work from the actors as they suffer the 'impact' of the car crash - contributed
to by Cai Thompson's excellent hand-held camera work.

Looking at the rushes later that day, I'm struck by the power and poignancy of
the images - young people like these actors will go out in the world around us
and hurt or kill themselves in cars.  The actors themselves can contemplate their
own deaths on screen - there's an element of mystery and wonder in all of this.
